Summer's Over, But I'm Not Ready To Hibernate Yet
Here on the prairies, it's getting a little colder every day and the leaves are begrudgingly changing colours. Trees show such a beautiful display of resistance to winter before they let all their leaves fall away. And I'm feeling that resistance a little, too. Even though I can feel the seasons changing, and I thought I'd be hunkering down to focus on writing and recording, I'm still barreling ahead with live performances. I'm playing three very different gigs this weekend!
Tonight (September 18), my cover band is playing a notorious dive bar called the East Gate Inn. My aim is to play a great show and avoid being stabbed. Just kidding, just kidding, just kidding, just kidding.
Tomorrow (September 19), I'm playing a sold-out solo gig at the Prairie Dog Central Railway's fall supper (sadly not performing on the train - maybe next time).
And Sunday (September 20) is going to be extra special. I organized a show for my pal Von Bieker, who is coming in from Edmonton for a weekend of shows & showcases. Von Bieker and I will be joined by my new pal Shannon Chapman, who recently moved back to Winnipeg after living and performing in Toronto for a long time. Shannon is a prolific and skilled songwriter with smooth, nimble vocals and an incendiary mastery on the keys, blending neo-soul and pop hooks with incisive and witty lyrics. We're performing at a small venue in Winnipeg called The Clubhouse, operated by Good & Plenty Arts Collective. At The Clubhouse, the seating is couches and loveseats - it's so cozy! It's a small room with limited capacity, so grab your tickets while you can. It's pay-what-you-can, with a suggested minimum of $10.
